About Us

Excel Driving School was  founded to provide specialized instruction and evaluations to help individuals with special needs achieve steps toward independent driving. We have licensed  instructors and therapists on staff  who are experienced in working with these students.   We work directly with school districts, rehabilitation centers, hospitals  and various agencies coordinating programs and services. We provide individual lessons and classroom instruction to persons with learning disabilities and physical limitations.  We have licensed instructors that are experienced and have been teaching students with special needs since 1998.  We work directly with school districts coordinating programs and services.

Since 2001 Excel Driving School has also been licensed by the state of Michigan to provide both teen and adult instruction. All of our instructors undergo routine background checks, health screenings and driver's license status monitoring. We are also an approved vendor to the state of Michigan and provide services to Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS) and other rehab agencies.

To the best of our knowledge, we are the only school in Michigan to offer simulator based driver training classes. It should be noted that we use our simulators to supplement, not replace, behind-the-wheel instruction in our vehicles.  All teen students at all of our facilities still receive 6 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction, as required by state law.  We do use the simulators as part of the classroom portion or our classes, and the students love it!
