At most driving schools, the instuctional facilities include some seating, a whiteboard and a television....and that's about it. At Excel Driving School, we think you should get more than that for your money, so we have redesigned our classrooms to make learning to drive as easy and as fun as it can possibly be. Instead of watching twenty year old videos on a small television, our students watch the latest available videos on a 61" high-definition screen with booming sound. Instead of endless worksheets and quizzes our students use interactive computer software that shows real driving situations and how to deal with them. Instead of boring lectures about right-of-way laws, our students experience right-of-way in our driving simulators, learning both the proper technique to deal with driving situations and the possible consequences.
We haven't just added a single simulator to our classroom for demonstration and advertising purposes, either. We have equipped our classroom with 11 (that's right, eleven) driving simulators that are capable of demonstrating nearly any common, or uncommon, driving situation. From how to make a right turn, to proper braking technique, to how to handle a skid, our simulators will show, not tell, your student how to drive. Think about that for a minute. Would you rather have your student told how to handle a skid ("steer into the skid", "steer out of the skid", "steer the opposite way..") or would you rather have your student actually know what a skid feels like and what they should do about it?
We haven't compromised on the quality of our equipment, either. Five of our simulators are high-fidelity driving simulators that duplicate the driving experience in nearly every possible way -- from the rumble of the engine to the sound of a skid. These simulators feature all of the best available hardware, including a full driving cockpit, reclining bucket seats, seat vibrations, triple-screen monitors, force-feedback steering wheels, full sound systems and even the ability to simulate a standard transmission. At a cost of nearly $10,000 each, they are certainly not toys (though they are fun to drive) and we are the only school in Michigan that has anything like them.
Thats not all. Our classroom also features a fully interactive computer lab that also functions as a simulator lab. While these simulators are not as sophisticated as our high-fidelity simulators, they are fully capable of teaching students many basic and advanced driving situations. Each computer has several training programs on it, from a full driver eduction curriculum that requires no reading, to an advanced defensive driving class that features.
We haven't simply added technology to our curriculum, either. We have fully trained our staff in how to better train students using this technology. We have also upgraded the classroom iteself, by adding a large screen display (61" high-definition with stereo sound) so that students feel like they are in the actual driving situations when they are watching a video. Even our whiteboard is not ordinary: it is magnetic and has a full set of traffic pieces so that instructors can accurately represent the concepts they are trying to teach, instead of stick drawings of cars and traffic lights. It really is a better way to instruct, and a better way to learn.
Our students aren't the only ones to benefit from our new facilities. We have also added a parent's lounge so that parents can stay warm and comfortable while their students are in class. The parent's lounge includes seating for several parents, a television and DVD player, a snack dispenser, and a desk to work on if you are so inlined. We have also made our WIFI internet connection available free of charge throughout our facilities, so you can really get some "work" done while your students are in class. Best of all, you are able to experience the quality of eduction that your students are receiving. Most driving schools (in fact most schools of any type) would dread having parents around during school hours, for fear that the parents would see how little the students are really taught. At Excel Driving School we welcome parents with open arms.
